Definition Hazl

Hazl according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is that no sense is intended by the wording, literal nor figurative: the serious’s contrary.

That no sense intended by the wording, literal nor figurative. Jidd, with jim kasra, its contrary.

Hazl according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

Hazala in his speech is of daraba’s paradigm: he jokes, leaving seriousness: a jester. Al-hazl: verbal noun applied to the object, the speech issuing of the jester; Allah said of the noble Quran: « it is a decisive word, and it is no jest ».
