Definition Ijaz

Ijaz according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Expressing the meant with less than the customary wording.

Ijaz according to Mufradat (Ar-Raghib)

It is ichtissar, the two alike, each known from the other; said between them general and particular from an angle, for iyjaz returns to the customary mean, and ichtissar sometimes to the customary mean, sometimes to the situation suiting simpler than what mentioned; by this regard ichtissar wider than iyjaz, ichtissar applied only with omission in the speech; by this regard iyjaz wider, for it may be by brevity without omission.

Ijaz according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)
