Definition Itiqad

Itiqad according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

Verbal noun of a’taqada you’taqidou; the root is ’aqada. Ibn Faris said: the ’ayn, qaf and dal are one root meaning: binding, firmness, solidity. I’tiqad is thus the heart’s knotting upon a thing without leaving it. The root of the knot: tying a thing to a thing. I’tiqad: the heart’s attachment to what it holds and binds it.
