Mashhur according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

The machhour; the machhour hadith is what was related among ahad originally, then spread till a people transmit it whose collusion on lying is inconceivable: the second generation and after, becoming like the mutawatir after the first generation; hence addition on the Book by it is permitted.

Mashhur according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

From chahhara youchahhirou chahran, he is machhour. Ach-chouhra: spreading and clearness. The machhour hadith: named for its fame and spread among the transmitters and scholars.
