Definition Murid

Murid according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is he detached from will. Sheikh Mouhyi ad-Din al-’Arabi, his secret sanctified, said in al-Foutouhat al-Makkiyya: he who turned to Allah, renouncing regard and insight, detaching from his own will, knowing nothing occurs in existence save what Allah wills, not what other wills: he erases his will in Allah’s will, wanting only what the Truth wills.

Murid according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

From irada: he who would its realization must bear the will toward the will. The mourid among the way’s masters: he turned toward Allah, renouncing regard and insight, detaching from his own will; its detail in their books, chiefly al-Foutouhat al-Makkiyya. The famous is the mourid wanting inner sciences’ unveiling, divine secrets and lordly nearness’, his guide in guidance a submission to the sanctified prophetic presence; the way of irada and allegiance mentioned in their books. Irada by a described guide’s canal has uncounted benefits, chiefly faith’s keeping at death’s pull and the devil’s warding: his guide present at his death-pull if complete, else his guide’s guide, so on to the holiest prophetic presence. So I heard from the great Allah-knowing scholars, Allah’s pleasure on them all.

Murid according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

He who wants Allah, coming to Him wholly.

Murid according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

With fatha; and the mard, of humankind’s devils, detached of good things, with damma: he who turned to Allah from regard and insight, detaching from his will, knowing nothing occurs in existence save what Allah wills, not what other wills: erasing his will in Allah’s, wanting only what the Truth wills.

Murid according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

Among sufis it is he detached from will, said as-Sayyid; in the Risala Qouchayriyya: irada among them is detaching for Allah in the path to tawhid’s perfection.
