Definition Na't

Na't according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

A complement indicating a sense in its head by the wording; this restriction excludes: « I struck Zayd », imagined a sense-indicating complement, indicating it not absolutely, but only the act’s issuing state.

Na't according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Lexically (condescending). Among grammarians: a complement indicating a sense in its head absolutely. Among sufis: the expression of an existential attribute, unlike the wasf embracing existent and nonexistent attributes. Some said: na’t is what entails essential distinction, wasf accidental. Some said: na’t the rooted attribute, wasf the unrooted.

A complement indicating a sense in its head absolutely, for specifying or clarifying.

Na't according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

The wasf: explicating the attributes established in self, mentioned by Abou al-Baqa’.

Na't according to Mu'jam Lughat al-Fuqaha

The signs inherent in the thing’s essence, by which known. Attribute, sign. As-saffa: with fatha and sukun.
