A tongue applied to the poem, of qafawtou atarahou when following it; then fa’ila in maf’oula’s sense, as « of flowing water ».

Qafiya according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Among prosody’s masters: the word placed at the verses’ and hemistichs’ ends. Some say: its last letter; of two types: absolute and restricted. Absolute rhyme: whose rou letters are voiced, engendered by their vowel’s lengthening by a weak letter; those letters then called the absoluteness’s letters. The rou letter is that at the rhyme’s end. Restricted rhyme: whose rou is mute, the sound then restricted, held, not absolute flowing, unlike the first.
