Definition of Brd

Al-bard (cold): opposite of heat.

Allah says: 'We said: O fire, be coolness (bardan) and peace for Ibrahim' (Al-Anbiyâ': 69).

Al-barad: hail.

Allah says: 'He sends down from the sky hail (barad)' (An-Nûr: 43).

﴿قُلْنَا يَٰنَارُ كُونِى بَرْدًا وَسَلَٰمًا عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham."
Surah An-Nur : 43 Medinan
﴿أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُزْجِى سَحَابًا ثُمَّ يُؤَلِّفُ بَيْنَهُۥ ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُۥ رُكَامًا فَتَرَى ٱلْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَٰلِهِۦ وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مِن جِبَالٍ فِيهَا مِنۢ بَرَدٍ فَيُصِيبُ بِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَصْرِفُهُۥ عَن مَّن يَشَآءُ يَكَادُ سَنَا بَرْقِهِۦ يَذْهَبُ بِٱلْأَبْصَٰرِ
Do you not see that Allah drives clouds? Then He brings them together, then He makes them into a mass, and you see the rain emerge from within it. And He sends down from the sky, mountains [of clouds] within which is hail, and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills. The flash of its lightening almost takes away the eyesight.
Surah Sad : 42 Meccan
﴿ٱرْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌۢ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ
[So he was told], "Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a [spring for] a cool bath and drink."
Surah Al-Waqi'a : 44 Meccan
﴿لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
Neither cool nor beneficial.
Surah An-Naba : 24 Meccan
﴿لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا
They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink
