Definition of Ṣrʿ
As-sar': throwing to the ground.
One says: I threw him down.
As-sar'a: one time.
The Almighty says: 'As if they were trunks of fallen palm trees' (Al-Qamar 20).
As-sara': the disease that makes one fall, epilepsy.
Throwing someone down means completely defeating them.
Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
