Main themes of the surah في سورة At-Tur

And We are ever-vigilant on the path of humiliation, abasement, and subjugation. '{اصلوها}' means to experience its heat and to persist in it, just as you used to persist in causing harm to My servants, which burned their hearts. '{فاصبروا}' means that due to your denial in the world and your current experience of it, it will be said to you: 'Be patient with this which you cannot bear.' '{أو لا تصبروا}' for there is no escape from it. '{سواء عليكم}' means that patience and impatience are the same to you. Since it is understood that patience has a merit over impatience, He explained that this is where the calamity is only in the form of the obligatory recompense that must occur, so He said, explaining: '{إنما تجزون}' means that your recompense is happening now and will continue to happen '{ما كنتم}' means that you used to '{تعملون}' with the allies, without caring about them, and this is the fruit of your actions towards them.

And when He mentioned what the deniers have of punishment, as indicated by the words of the oath, He followed it with what their opposites have of reward, also indicated by those words, to complete the news as an encouragement and a warning. So, He said, in response to one who might say, 'What about those who oppose them regarding You?', confirming what the disbelievers have of denial: {Indeed, the righteous} - that is, those for whom righteousness has become a firmly established attribute - {will be in gardens} - that is, in perpetual gardens, both in this world by way of judgment and in the Hereafter. And since gardens may sometimes have someone who is wretched inside them, or a wretched owner, He negated this by saying:

And when He gathered them in the matter of progeny being affiliated with them, because they are among the greatest blessings, and He secured them from what they might fear regarding their deficiency being made up for by others, and He explained this so that it would be more firmly established in the mind. He followed it up with something similar, saying: {وأمددناهم}, meaning, the believers and the pious, as well as those of their progeny who are affiliated with them, are given, by Us, an increase in greatness beyond what has been mentioned. {بفاكهة} And since fruit is something apparent in what they know in the world, and although the life of Paradise, with all its things, is unimaginable and not focused on preserving the body, He said: {ولحم مما يشتهون}, meaning, there is nothing in it that they do not desire, to the utmost extent of their desire. And since this great, lasting bliss invites socializing, with the fragrant wine, He indicated that this is their inevitable, apparent state, with the noble, pure characteristics, saying: {يتنازعون}, meaning, they drink while taking turns, in a playful, loving manner, due to the extreme love and joy, and the pleasantness of their companionship. {فيها كأساً}, meaning, a cup of wine, whose clarity is such that it can hardly be seen in the cup. And since the wine of this world has evils that are removed from it, He said: {لا لغو}, meaning, there is no foolish talk, nor anything that harms or benefits not, {فيها}.

The mysteries, then with a doubling of the expansiveness through contentment with the most inferior kind.

And this is similar to the previous section in that it does not rely on anything, or the establishment of this description for them is a reason for them to be trustworthy in what they say and to be arrogant towards you. For if they claim that, the lowest of creations would judge them to be insane; {Did they create} - that is, in a shared manner - {the heavens and the earth}? For they would be knowledgeable about what is in them in a comprehensive and certain way, to the point that they would know that you say this so that they may respond to it and mock it. And since the estimation is that none of that would be for them to have a semblance of doubt in their speech about you, He followed it up with His statement: {Nay, they have no certainty *} - that is, they do not have any type of certainty to settle on one thing as the truth, or to know that these shameful consequences would be incumbent upon them, and thus they would cease from their likes. {Or do they have} - that is, specifically for them, apart from others - {the treasures}? And since the mention of mercy is not implied by the purpose of the surah, which is punishment, it was not mentioned, just as in the cases of 'swt' and 'subhan'. Therefore, it is said: {Your Lord} - the One who has done good to you by sending you with this message - so that they may know that this which is established is not from their speech, for they do not have any authority over the treasures except through Him. Thus, their statement that you said it would be correct, and at that point, they would be faced with shameful consequences without end, among them that they would bring forth a statement like it, or even better, from those treasures. {Or are they} - that is, they alone - {the controllers *} - that is, the guardians, the preservers, the dominators, the wise leaders, and the scribes - so that they would be in control of all things, just as is the case with the scribes of the king's secrets, so that they may know that you said this.

Or are they the dominant ones? My heart nearly flew away, and Ibn Majah said: When he heard him reciting {Or from nothing or are they the creators} - to his statement - {Then let their listeners bring a clear authority} my heart nearly flew away. And it was mentioned earlier in the beginning of the Surah what Al-Baghawi mentioned from this Hadith.

The Maghrib, 'Isha', and night prayer, and to glorify Him, He stated this and prioritized the act, and the pronoun refers back to the noun it is attached to. He indicated the performance of tahajjud after entering into what came before it by saying {and the passing of the stars}, meaning to glorify Him at the time of their passing, that is, when they pass, and that is at the end of the night in its second half. The closer it gets to dawn, the more superior and worthy of response it becomes. The reading of al-fatihah, in the plural form of 'dabar', refers to the time near dawn, that is, at the time of their disappearance or setting, and that is through the prayer of Fajr, which is more rightful and worthy, whether it is a sunnah or an obligation, for it is the time of their actual passing. Thus, the worship of the morning becomes emphasized twice, in honor and glorification of its status, for that saves from the affliction that occurs, and aids against the enemy who dares to confront, the open sinner, the defender, the hypocrite, and the deceiver. The end of it returns to its beginning, and its disconnected part returns to its connected part, through the infliction of punishment on the wrongdoer, and its distance from the obedient, peaceful one - and Allah is the One who grants success.

By the mount

And [by] a Book inscribed

In parchment spread open

And [by] the frequented House

And [by] the heaven raised high

And [by] the sea filled [with fire],

Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur.

Of it there is no preventer.

On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion

And the mountains will pass on, departing -

Then woe, that Day, to the deniers,

Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves.

The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say],

"This is the Fire which you used to deny.

Then is this magic, or do you not see?

[Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do."

Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure,

Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire.

[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."

They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.

And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.

And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire.

They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin.

There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected.

And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.

They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah].

So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.

Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."

So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.

Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?"

Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."

Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people?

Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe.

Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.

Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?

Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.

Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]?

Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority.

Or has He daughters while you have sons?

Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?

Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?

Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan.

Or have they a deity other than Allah? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.

And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up."

So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible -

The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped.

And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know.

And be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord when you arise.

And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars.
