📖 1 min readAllah is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The proper Name of the Divine Reality, encompassing every attribute of perfection.
To pronounce the name Allah in Arabic, we say: Allah.
It is written in Arabic: الله.
Allah is the supreme proper name (الاسم الأعظم, al-ism al-a'zam). Grammarians differ: it may contract الإله (al-ilah, the deity) or be a non-derived proper name.
“Allah” is the proper Name of the Divine Reality, the supreme Name encompassing every attribute of perfection without exception. The other Names each indicate a particular meaning, whereas this Name designates the One to whom worship and lordship belong, without partner or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the servant’s share is to turn the whole heart and aspiration toward Allah: hoping in, fearing, and truly worshipping Him alone, recognizing that every created existence depends upon Him, and purifying intention and action for His sake.
