📖 1 min readThe Equitable is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One who gives the oppressed their due with perfect equity.
To pronounce the name The Equitable in Arabic, we say: Al-Muqsit.
It is written in Arabic: المقسط.
From the Arabic root ق-س-ط (q-s-t, equity), مُقْسِط (muqsit) is the Form IV active participle, the one who acts with perfect fairness and justice.
The Name “The Equitable” means: The One who gives the oppressed their due with perfect equity. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to act fairly, restore rights, and begin by judging one's own conduct honestly. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
