📖 1 min readThe Humiliator is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One who withdraws honor from whom He wills in justice.
To pronounce the name The Humiliator in Arabic, we say: Al-Mudhill.
It is written in Arabic: المذل.
From the Arabic root ذ-ل-ل (dh-l-l, lowliness), مُذِلّ (mudhill) is the Form IV active participle مُفْعِل, the one who justly brings low or removes honor.
The Name “The Humiliator” means: The One who withdraws honor from whom He wills in justice. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to act fairly, restore rights, and begin by judging one's own conduct honestly. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
