📖 1 min readThe Initiator is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One who begins creation without any prior model.
To pronounce the name The Initiator in Arabic, we say: Al-Mubdi'.
It is written in Arabic: المبدئ.
From the Arabic root ب-د-أ (b-d-ʾ, to begin), مُبْدِئ (mubdi') is the Form IV active participle, the one who originates creation without precedent.
The Name “The Initiator” means: The One who begins creation without any prior model. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to contemplate the wisdom of creation, respect every creature, and use one's abilities for good. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
