📖 1 min readThe Just Avenger is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One who justly requites those who persist in oppression.
To pronounce the name The Just Avenger in Arabic, we say: Al-Muntaqim.
It is written in Arabic: المنتقم.
From the Arabic root ن-ق-م (n-q-m, to requite wrongdoing), مُنْتَقِم (muntaqim) is the Form VIII active participle, the one who exacts just retribution.
The Name “The Just Avenger” means: The One who justly requites those who persist in oppression. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to act fairly, restore rights, and begin by judging one's own conduct honestly. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
