📖 1 min readThe Most Great is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One whose greatness is absolute and before whom all things are small.
To pronounce the name The Most Great in Arabic, we say: Al-Kabir.
It is written in Arabic: الكبير.
From the Arabic root ك-ب-ر (k-b-r, greatness), on the pattern فَعِيل (fa'il), it denotes greatness beyond every created measure or comparison.
The Name “The Most Great” means: The One whose greatness is absolute and before whom all things are small. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to grow in reverence and humility, never ascribing to creation what belongs only to the Creator. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
