To pronounce the name The Most High in Arabic, we say: Al-'Ali.
It is written in Arabic: العلي.
From the Arabic root ع-ل-و ('-l-w, height and exaltation), عَلِيّ ('aliyy) follows فَعِيل and denotes absolute elevation in essence, rank, and power.
The Name “The Most High” means: The One above whom there is no rank of perfection. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to raise aspiration above the passions while remaining humble toward creation. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
