To pronounce the name The Opener in Arabic, we say: Al-Fattah.
It is written in Arabic: الفتاح.
From the Arabic root ف-ت-ح (f-t-h, to open or decide), on the intensive pattern فَعَّال (fa''al), it denotes one who opens ways and judges decisively.
The Name “The Opener” means: The One who opens the gates of mercy and judges with truth. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to ask for upright guidance, learn the truth, and guide others with knowledge, patience, and kindness. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
