What to say and do when one commits a sin

ما من عبدٍ يذنب ذنباً فيحسن الطهور ، ثم يقوم فيصلي ركعتين ، ثم يستغفر الله إلا غفر الله لهُ

Pronunciation

Ma min 'abdin yadhnabu dhanban fa-yuhsinu-t-tuhur, thumma yaqumu fa-yusalli rak'atayn, thumma yastaghfiru-llaha illa ghafara-llahu lahu.

Translation

There is no servant who commits a sin, then performs ablution well, stands and prays two rak'ahs, then seeks Allah's forgiveness, except that Allah forgives him.
