Ibn al-Kalbi said: 'Amr ibn Tha'labah had incurred [the guilt of] bloodshed among his people, so he joined Hadramawt, and he allied with Kindah, so he used to be called al-Kindi, and he married there a woman who bore him al-Miqdad; and when al-Miqdad grew up, a quarrel occurred between him and Abu Shimr ibn Hujr al-Kindi, so he struck his leg with a sword and fled to Mecca, and he allied with al-Aswad ibn 'Abd Yaghuth al-Zuhri, and he wrote to his father, who came to him, and al-Aswad adopted al-Miqdad, so he came to be called al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad, and that [name] predominated over him, and he became famous by it. When there was revealed: Call them by [the names of] their fathers [Surat al-Ahzab, verse 5], he was called al-Miqdad ibn 'Amr, but his fame [as] Ibn al-Aswad became well known.

He said: Marry me to your daughter. So 'Abd al-Rahman became angry and was harsh with him, so he complained of that to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and his family and grant him peace, and he said: I will marry you. So he married him to his cousin Duba'ah bint al-Zubayr ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib.

And Abu Rabi'ah al-Iyadi said, on the authority of 'Abd Allah ibn Buraydah, from his father, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and his family and grant him peace: «Indeed Allah, Mighty and Majestic, commanded me to love four, and informed me that He loves them: 'Ali, al-Miqdad, Abu Dharr, and Salman» «1»,
