Biography of Anas ibn Malik

Anas bin Malik bin Al-Nadhr bin Damdam bin Zaid bin Haram bin Jundub bin Aamir bin Ghanam bin Adi bin Al-Najjar, and his name is: Taym Allah bin Tha'labah bin Amr bin Al-Khazraj bin Haritha Al-Ansari Al-Khazraji Al-Najjari. From Bani Adi bin Al-Najjar. The servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, used to be called by him and was proud of it. He and the mother of Abd al-Muttalib, the grandmother of the Prophet ﷺ would gather together. Her name was Salma bint Amr bin Zaid bin Asad bin Khadash bin Amer in Amer bin Ghanam. He was known by the kunya Abu Hamza. The Prophet ﷺ gave him this kunya after a plant that he used to gather. His mother was Umm Salim bint. Malhan, its lineage is mentioned in its name.

He used to dye his hair with yellow; according to another report, with henna; in another account, with paint. He perfumed his forearms with khaluq to cover a pale patch. He wore a sidelock that he once wished to cut, but his mother forbade him. She said: The Prophet ﷺ used to extend it and take it, and the Prophet ﷺ caressed him and said to him: O one with ears. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Ansari said: My father told me, on the authority of a servant of Anas bin Malik, that he said to Anas: I witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: No, or do you have a mother? Where were you absent from Badr?. Muhammad bin Abdullah said: Anas went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to Badr. He was a boy serving him. He was ten years old when the Prophet ﷺ came to Medina as an immigrant. Another report states: nine years; some reports state instead: eight years.

Al-Zuhri narrated, on the authority of Anas, who said: the Prophet ﷺ came to Medina when I was ten years old. He died when I was twenty years old. Some reports state: He served the Prophet ﷺ for ten years. According to another account, He served him for eight years; according to another report, Seven. Ibn Abi Dhi'b narrated, on the authority of Ishaq bin Yazid, he said: I saw Anas bin Malik with a seal on his neck, sealed by Al-Hajjaj.

A writer said: I served him for nine years. He never said to me about anything I did: "You have done evil," or "What you have done is miserable." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, prayed for him to have abundant wealth and children. Eighty males were born to him, and two daughters were born to him, one of whom was Hafsa, and the other was Umm Amr. He died while he had one of his sons, and one hundred and twenty sons were born to him; in another account, about a hundred. His ring was engraved with the image of a crouching lion. He used to clench his teeth with gold. He was one of the successful archers. He would order his sons to shoot in front of him.
