Amir ibn Taym Allah ibn Mubashshir ibn Aklab- with damma over the lam- al-Khath'ami then al-Aklabi, with the kunya Abu Sufyan.

Ibn Shahin mentioned him among the Companions. And he related, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Yazid, on the authority of his sources, and he mentioned his lineage, then said: I do not know any hadith of his.

And Ibn al-Kalbi mentioned him and gave his lineage, and said: he was a poet and had become a chief, but he did not say: that he had companionship, as is his custom in the like of him. And Abu Ubayd, Ibn Jundub, and Ibn Hazm followed him; and Ibn Fathun mentioned him in the appendix to al-Isti'ab on the authority of al-Tabari, and said: he was a poet and was killed alongside Ali. And Abu Hatim al-Sijistani mentioned him among the long-lived (al-mu'ammarin), he said: and he was the chief of Khath'am in the Jahiliyya and its horseman, and he reached Islam and accepted it, and he lived one hundred and fifty-four years, and he said when he reached that age:

When a man has lived a hundred years in safety ... and fifty years after that and four, the sweetness of life turns bitter after its sweetness ... and he is soon to wear out and to decline, a hostage to the depths of the house from which he does not stir ... a recluse who never leaves the cradle of his couch, telling of those who have died, as though ... he has seen al-Sa'b Dhu al-Qarnayn, or beheld Tubba' [ (١) ]

[al-Tawil meter] And someone other than him said: Khalid ibn al-Walid married his daughter, and she bore him Abd al-Rahman, Abd Allah, and al-Muhajir.

And al-Marzubani said: he was one of the horsemen of Khath'am in the Jahiliyya, then he accepted Islam and settled in Kufa, and he is the one who said:

I plunge into wars while my coat of mail is doubled ... covering the fingertips, and my sword is a cutting blade [al-Basit meter] And his reports in the Jahiliyya are many, among them what Abu Ubayda related in "al-Dibaj" on the authority of al-Muntaji' ibn Nabhan, he said: al-Sulayk ibn al-Sulaka, the famous poet, used to give Abd Malik ibn Muwaylik al-Khath'ami a tribute (itawa) from his spoils on al-Hira [ (٢) ]. So he passed by, returning from a raid of his, and behold, there was a tent of Khath'am whose menfolk were absent, and in it was a young, plump woman; he asked her: Where is the clan? She said: Absent; so he forced himself upon her, and when he had finished and risen from her she hastened to the water and informed the people of her affair. So Anas ibn Malik ibn Mudrik al-Khath'ami rode out, overtook him, and killed him. So Abd Malik said: I shall surely kill his killer, or he shall pay his blood-money; so Anas said to him: By Allah, I will never pay his blood-money, because of his immorality.

And Abu al-Faraj al-Asbahani recorded for him a long story with Durayd ibn al-Simma, also in the Jahiliyya. And

[ (١) ] The verses are to be found in al-Mu'ammarin: ٤٢.
[ (٢) ] al-Hira: with kasra then sukun and a ra: a town that was at three miles from Kufa, at a place called al-Najaf.
See: Mu'jam al-Buldan ٢/ ٣٧٦.

al-Zubayr ibn Bakkar mentioned in "al-Nasab": Abd Allah ibn al-Harith al-Wadi'i used to come to Mecca every year, and Anas ibn Mudrik al-Khath'ami met him, raided him, and despoiled him, so he said concerning that some verses, among them:

And my she-camel did not depart from any evil in my path ... that a guardian should bar her from your bounty [ (١) ]; Anas was insolent after the noonday rest and barred us ... from the House when gains had failed him [al-Tawil meter] :
