Biography of Safwan ibn Ummiyah
Safwan bin Umayyah bin Khalaf bin Wahb bin Hudhafah bin Jumhi, Al-Qurashi Al-Jumahi. His mother is Safiya bint Muammar bin Habib bin Wahb bin Hudhafa bin Jumhi, also Jumhi, nicknamed Abu Wahb; according to another report, Abu Umayyah. Ibn Shihab said: the Prophet ﷺ said to Safwan: Abu Wahb was revealed, and Abu Jafar Muhammad bin Ali narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said to him: Abu Umayyah. His father killed Umayyah bin Khalaf on the Battle of Badr as an infidel, and when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, conquered Mecca, Safwan bin Umayyah fled to Jeddah, and Umair bin Wahb bin Khalaf came, He is the cousin of Safwan. He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his son Wahb bin Umair was with him. They asked him for protection from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he granted him protection.
He sent him his cloak, or his cloak; in another account, with his turban with which he entered Mecca to protect him. Wahb bin Umair caught up with him and returned with him, so he stood over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He called out to a group of people: O Muhammad, this is Wahb bin Umair. He claims that you assured me that I would have a two-month journey. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said to him: "Come down, Abu Wahb." He said: No, until it is clear to me. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: "Come down and you will have a journey of four months." So he descended and walked with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. To Hunayn, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, borrowed a weapon from him. He said: Voluntarily or by compulsion. He said: Rather, voluntarily, bare and secured. So he lent it, and Hunayn witnessed an infidel.
When the Muslims were defeated, Kalada ibn al-Hanbal, who was Safwan's brother to his mother, said: Except the magic is invalid! Safwan said: Be quiet, may Allah loosen your mind. By Allah, it is more beloved to me to have a man from Quraish raise me than a man from Hawazin to raise me. That is, Awf bin Malik al-Nadhari. When the Muslims were victorious, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, gave him to him on the day of Hunayn. Reported by Ibrahim bin Muhammad al-Faqih and others, on the authority of Abu Issa al-Tirmidhi, who said: Al-Hasan Al-Khallal narrated to us, Yahya bin Adam narrated to us, on the authority of Ibn Al-Mubarak, on the authority of Yunus, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Sa'id bin Al-Musayyab, on the authority of Safwan, that he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, gave me the day of Hunayn. He is the most hated of people to me. He continues to give me to the extent that I love him.
When Safwan saw the abundance of what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, had given him, he said: By Allah, no one would like this except the soul of a prophet, so he converted to Islam. He was one of the people of the Prophet ﷺ. He was a good Muslim. He resided in Mecca. It was said to him: Whoever does not emigrate will perish, and there is no Islam for the one who does not emigrate, so he came to Medina as an emigrant, and stayed with Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, so he mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: "There will be no migration after the conquest." He said: "On whom did it descend?" He said: "On Abbas." He said: "It descended on the most beloved of Quraysh." Then he said to him: "Return Abu Wahb to the tyrants of Mecca, and live your lives." So he returned to it and resided there until he died. He was one of the nobles.
Quraysh in pre-Islamic times. He was one of those who fed, so he was known as Sadad al-Batha. He was one of the most eloquent of Quraysh. Another report states: There were no people who gathered to have five among them who were vaccinated except for Amr bin Abdullah bin Safwan bin Umayyah bin Khalaf. He fed Khalaf, Umayyah, Safwan, Abdullah, and Amr, and Muawiyah said one day: Who will feed in Mecca? They said: Abdullah bin Safwan. He said: Bakh, bakh, that is a fire that cannot be extinguished. Abdullah bin Safwan was killed in Mecca, along with Abdullah bin Al-Zubair, and Safwan bin Umayyah died in Mecca in the year forty-two, the first of Muawiyah's caliphates; some reports state instead: He died when Othman bin Affan was killed.
