Biography of 'Uthman ibn Mugh'un

Othman bin Mazun bin Habib bin Wahb bin Hudhafah bin Jumah bin Amr bin Husays bin Kaab bin Luay bin Ghalib Al-Qurashi Al-Jumahi, nicknamed Abu Al-Sa'ib. His mother was Sukhaila bint Al-Anbas bin Ahaban bin Hudhafah bin Jumh. She was Umm al-Sa'ib and Abdullah, my son Mad'un. He converted to Islam at the beginning. Ibn Ishaq said: Uthman bin Mazun converted to Islam after thirteen men. He and his son al-Saib immigrated to Abyssinia, the first migration, with a group of Muslims. He informed them while they were in Abyssinia that the Quraysh had converted to Islam, so they returned.

Reported by Abu Ja`far ibn al-Samin, on the authority of Ibn Ishaq, who said: When news came from Abyssinia that the people of Mecca were prostrating with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they came, and whoever Allah willed among them. They saw that they had followed the Prophet ﷺ when they approached Mecca, the matter reached them, and it became difficult for them to return. They feared that they would enter Mecca without neighbourhood, so they stayed until every man among them entered next to some of the people of Mecca, and Othman bin Mazun came next to Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah. Ibn Ishaq said: Then Salih bin Ibrahim bin told me.

Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, on the authority of his father, on the authority of the one who told him, he said: When Uthman saw the harm that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and his companions were facing. He was going in the morning and going in the safety of al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah, Uthman said: By Allah, my morning and my rest are safe next to a man of polytheism, my companions, and my household. They afflict Allah with affliction and harm that would not befall me due to a severe deficiency in myself. So he went to Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah and said: O Abu Abd Shams, you have fulfilled your duty. I have been with you. I would have liked to go out of it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so let him and his companions be an example. Al-Walid said: Perhaps you, my nephew, were harmed or violated? He said: No, but I am satisfied with Allah. I do not want to seek protection from anyone else!

He said: So go to the mosque, and visit my maids openly, just as I paid you openly! So he said: Go, so they left until they came to the mosque, and Al-Walid said: This is Othman bin Mazun, who has come to return my neighbourhood. Othman said: He spoke the truth. I found him loyal and generous. I loved not to seek protection from anyone other than Allah. I returned his neighbourhood. Then he left. Othman bin Mazun, and Labeed bin Rabia bin Jaafar bin Kilab Al-Qaysi in the Quraysh council, so Othman sat with them, and Labeed said while he was pleading with them: Everything except for Allah is false. Othman said: You are right. Labeed said: And every bliss is inevitably fleeting. Othman said: You lied, so the people turned around.

To him, they said to Al-Baid: Bring it back to us, so Labid brought it back. He brought back Othman for him by denying him once and by believing him once. He only meant Othman, when he said: I lied, meaning the bliss of Paradise will never go away, so Labid said: By Allah, O people of Quraysh, your gatherings were not like this! Then a fool among them went up to Uthman ibn Mazun and slapped his eye, and it turned green. Those around him said to him: By Allah, O Uthman, you were under an invincible protection and your eye was rich in what you found! Othman said: Allah's neighborhood is safe and dear, and my right eye is an example to what I met her sister. I have the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and those who believe with him as an example. No, Al-Walid said: Do you have my side? Othman said: I do not want to be in the closeness of anyone except in the closeness of Allah. Then Othman migrated to Medina and witnessed Badr.

He was one of the most diligent people in worship. He fasted during the day and prayed the night, avoided desires, and kept away from women. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, asked permission for celibacy and specialization, but he forbade him from that, as he was one of those who forbade alcohol for himself. He said: I do not drink a drink that takes away my mind, and makes those who are lower than me laugh at me. He was the first man among the immigrants to die in Medina. He died in the year two of the Hijra. Another report states: He died twenty-two months after witnessing Badr. He was the first to be buried in Al-Baqi. Reported by Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Mahran and others, on the authority of Aisha, who said: "the Prophet ﷺ accepted Othman bin Mazun was dead. He was crying, and his eyes were bleeding.

When Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: "Follow the righteous predecessor, Othman bin "Maza'un," and it was narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said that to his daughter Zainab, peace be upon him, and the Prophet ﷺ marked his grave with a stone. He used to visit it. Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet ﷺ entered upon Othman bin Mazun when he died, so he leaned down on him and raised his head. He then bent down a second time. He then bent down a third time. He then raised his head, while inhaling, and said: "Go away, Abu Al-Sa'ib. You came out of it and did not wear any of it." Yusuf bin Mahran narrated, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, he said: When Othman bin Mazoun died, his wife said: Congratulations to you in Paradise! the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, looked at the angry person and said: "And what do you know?

She said: O Messenger of Allah, your knight and companion! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: "I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I do not know what He will do with me!" ». People differed regarding the woman to whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said this. Some reports state: Umm al-Sa'ib was his wife. According to another account, Umm al-Ala' al-Ansariyya. He stayed with her. Another report states: She was the mother of Kharijah ibn Zayd. His wife said, eulogizing him: O spring of my soul, with ungrateful tears... on the burden of Othman ibn Maz'un on a man who spent the night in the pleasure of his Creator.... Blessed is he among the deceased, the person buried. Blessed is Al-Baqi. He has a residence and resting place... and his land shines after his appointment. He leaves the heart with unending sadness... until death, so long as there is nothing for him.
