Definition of Bed / Cover

Al-Farsh refers to spreading out garments.

What is spread is called farsh and firāsh.

The Almighty says: 'Who made for you the earth a bed' (Al-Baqarah 22), and: 'Reclining on carpets' (Ar-Rahman 54).

Al-farsh also refers to small livestock.

Surah Al-Baqara : 22 Medinan

﴿ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ فِرَٰشًا وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بِنَآءً وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ رِزْقًا لَّكُمْ فَلَا تَجْعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ أَندَادًا وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ﴾

[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him].

Surah Al-An'am : 142 Meccan

﴿وَمِنَ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ حَمُولَةً وَفَرْشًا كُلُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ﴾

And of the grazing livestock are carriers [of burdens] and those [too] small. Eat of what Allah has provided for you and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

Surah Adh-Dhariyat : 48 Meccan

﴿وَٱلْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَٰهَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْمَٰهِدُونَ﴾

And the earth We have spread out, and excellent is the preparer.

Surah Ar-Rahman : 54 Meccan

﴿مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشٍۭ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ وَجَنَى ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ دَانٍ﴾

[They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.

Surah Al-Waqi'a : 34 Meccan

﴿وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ﴾

And [upon] beds raised high.
