Definition of Effort / Seriousness

Al-jadd: to cut flat land.

Hence: 'jadda fî sayrih' (he was serious in his walk), and 'jadda fî amrih' and 'ajadda' (he became serious in his affair).

Allah says regarding the jinn: 'And that the majesty (jadd) of our Lord is exalted' (Al-Jinn: 3).
