📖 2 min readOne says: the affair of such a one is upright; and the saying of the jurists: the lesser of the two amounts and the greater of them runs from such and such. The correct reading is that the waw be a conjunction governing min, that is: from such and from such; it is an exposition of the two amounts matching them in plurality and clarifying their meaning. If one said: from such or such, with an alif, the meaning would become: the lesser of the two amounts is from this one or from that one, and neither one alone would expound the two, which is forbidden because of the ambiguity it entails, and because the one has no lesser and greater except according to the Kufan school; and this amounts to its cadence, or the position of the waw.
