Definition Al-aqraʾ

Al-aqraʾ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In language: making another carry the recitation; one says he made another recite (aqra'a), yuqri'uhu iqra'an; and 'aqri'-hu the Qur'an': he is then like the muqri'; when a man recites the Qur'an or hadith to a shaykh one says: 'so-and-so aqra'ani', that is, he made me recite to him. As for the aqra': it has been said it is the plural of qar', which in language is the name for the pure interval and menstruation together; it occurs in the Law for both. For the pure: the Prophet's (peace and blessings upon him) word to 'Abd Allah b. 'Umar: 'it is of the sunna to divorce her at every qar' with a single divorce' (Ibn Majah, 'at-Talaq', 2). For menstruation: the Prophet's word to that mustahada (one with continuous bleeding): 'leave the prayer the days of your aqra' (menses).'
