Definition Al-ʿraʾs

Al-ʿraʾs according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

The plural of 'arus (bridegroom, bride). Al-Jawhari said: one says: a man 'arus among men 'urs, a woman 'arus among women 'ara'is; a'rasa al-rajul: he married into his family or held a wedding feast; one does not say 'arrasa. And at-ta'ris: retiring at the end of the night for sleep or rest. (Al-misbah al-munir, entry 'ars, pp. 401, 402, 'Ilmiyya edition; al-matla', p. 349).
