Definition Al-ḍḥā

Al-ḍḥā according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

With "the sheep" and the like: slaughtering it in the duha (forenoon) of the days of Eid al-Adha. - With "a thing": he was unhurried and did not hasten. - With "livestock": he pastured it in the duha.

Al-ḍḥā according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

The spreading of the sun and the rising of the day; by this the time is named.

Al-ḍḥā according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

The spreading out of the sun and the extension of the day.

Al-ḍḥā in the Quran

﴿أَوَأَمِنَ أَهْلُ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ أَن يَأْتِيَهُم بَأْسُنَا ضُحًۭى وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ﴾

« Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play? »

Surah الأعراف : 98

﴿قَالَ مَوْعِدُكُمْ يَوْمُ ٱلزِّينَةِ وَأَن يُحْشَرَ ٱلنَّاسُ ضُحًۭى﴾

« [Moses] said, "Your appointment is on the day of the festival when the people assemble at mid-morning." »

Surah طه : 59

﴿وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا﴾

« And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness. »

Surah النازعات : 29

﴿كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا﴾

« It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof. »

Surah النازعات : 46

﴿وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا﴾

« By the sun and its brightness »

Surah الشمس : 1

﴿وَٱلضُّحَىٰ﴾

« By the morning brightness »
