Definition Al-ghsl

Al-ghsl according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

It is making the water flow with trickling (taqatur).

Al-ghsl according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

'The thing, ghaslan': to remove its dirt and clean it with water. 'So-and-so with the whip': to strike him so as to pain him. 'The man his wife': to have with her the marital relation. 'The organs': to wash them thoroughly. 'The dead': to purify and cleanse him. 'His wife': to have with her the marital relation. 'Al-ghusala': what comes out of a thing by washing. 'The water with which one washes'. 'Al-ghasl': the verbal noun of 'ghasala'; the fatha of the ghayn is more common and more correct, but the damma is more frequent in the jurists' language, to distinguish it from washing filth. 'Al-ghusl': the complete washing of the whole body. 'The water with which one bathes'. In the law's usage: pouring water over the whole body, from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet, inwardly and outwardly, with rubbing, joined to intention (al-Husayn al-San'ani). 'Al-ghusl': the washing. 'Al-ghisl': the lotion. 'Al-ghislin': what flows from the flesh of the people of the Fire and their blood, the ya' and nun being superfluous. 'Al-ghasul': the water with which one bathes. 'That with which one washes', such as soap. 'Al-mughtasal': the lotion. 'That in which one bathes'.

With kasra of the fa and sukun of the sin: what is used to wash the head, such as huzami and soap and the like, like head-cleansing clay; and 'al-ghasla' likewise. Eng.: Anything used in washing the head or perfume for the head. 'Al-ghishsh': with kasra of the ghayn, verbal noun of 'ghashsha': deception; Eng.: Deception, fraud.
