Definition Al-ghyba

Al-ghyba according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

The heart's absence from knowledge of what passes of the creatures' states, and even of its own soul's states, of what comes to it of truth, when the influx grows great and the power of reality prevails; he is then present with the Truth, absent from himself and from creatures; and what witnesses to this is the story of the women who cut their hands at seeing Yusuf: if the sight of Yusuf's beauty is such, what of the sight of the lights of the Lord of Majesty.

Al-ghyba according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Mentioning man's faults in his absence while they are in him; if they are not, it is slander; and if one confronts him, it is insult.

Al-ghyba according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

With kasra of the ghayn: to mention your brother in what he hates; if it is in him you have backbitten him; if not, you have slandered him, that is, said of him what he did not do.

Al-ghyba according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In language: a noun from ightaba with ightiyaban, when one mentions one's absent brother in what he hates of faults and they are in him; if not, it is slander. Ghiba technically: to mention your brother in what he hates.

Al-ghyba according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

With kasra: to mention your brother in what he hates; if it is in him you have backbitten him; else you have slandered him, that is, said of him what he did not do. And one of its finest definitions is: mentioning the fault openly, in absence.

Al-ghyba according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

Mentioning man's faults in the mode of disdain, in his absence and while they are in him; if they are not, it is slander; and if one confronts him, it is insult.
