Definition Al-iʿjaz

Al-iʿjaz according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

In speech, it consists in conveying the meaning through a way that is more eloquent than all the other ways.

Al-iʿjaz according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

(In Persian: "to render incapable".) The iʿjāz (inimitability) in the speech of Allah, the Most High, consists in conveying the meaning through a way that is more eloquent than all the ways other than it. Thus the inimitability of the speech of Allah, the Most High, is nothing other than this.

Al-iʿjaz according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

In speech, conveying it through a way more eloquent than all the ways other than it (al-Tarifat, p. 32).
