Definition Al-iḥṣan

Al-iḥṣan according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is that the man be sane, of age, free and Muslim, and that he have entered upon a woman who is of age, sane, free and Muslim, by a valid marriage.

Al-iḥṣan according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

In language: protection and entering the fortress (hisn); one says 'ahsana', that is, he entered the fortress, just as one says 'so-and-so 'araqa', that is, he entered the lineage. In the Sharia: that the human being, man or woman, be sane, of age, free and Muslim, and that consummation have occurred for him with a human being of age, free and Muslim, through a valid marriage. This is the ihsan of stoning: whoever possesses these five qualities and fornicates with any woman possessing the qualities of ihsan incurs stoning first; if the adulteress possesses the qualities of ihsan, she too is stoned, otherwise she is given the discretionary punishment; if a woman possessing these five qualities fornicates with any man possessing the qualities of ihsan, she incurs stoning first; if the fornicator also possesses the qualities of ihsan, he is stoned, otherwise he is given the punishment. Thus does a person enter the fortress through the presence of the five mentioned qualities. As for the ihsan of the offence of slander (qadhf), it is that the slandered one be sane, of age, free, Muslim and chaste of the intercourse that the Sharia qualifies as fornication.

Al-iḥṣan according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

Chastity and guarding against falling into the unlawful; Allah, the Most High, said: 'and those who cast (accusations) upon the chaste women.'

Al-iḥṣan according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

That the human being be of age, sane, free and Muslim, and have entered upon a woman likewise (that is, sane, free and Muslim; see al-Ta'rifat, p. 10) by a valid marriage.

Al-iḥṣan according to Mu'jam Lughat al-Fuqaha

From 'ahsana' (active voice) and 'uhsina' (passive voice), 'ihsanan': he married; 'muhsin' (with kasra on the sad) is the active participle and (with fatha) the passive participle. Integrity.
