With damma: what is set for a man upon a thing he does, and likewise al-ja'ala with kasra; thus in al-Nihaya.
With damma: the name of what one sets as a condition of manumission. The difference between manumission upon a ju'l and the mukataba is that the slave becomes freed in manumission upon a ju'l at once, unlike the mukataba, for manumission therein is after paying the mukataba's substitute, though the word mukataba and what conveys its meaning is also a condition in it. And the ju'l is also the name of what the imam sets upon the people for those going forth to jihad. Al-jal' with fatha is a masdar in the sense of creating and making; the first complete and the second incomplete; hence they said it is of two kinds: 'the simple jal'', also called creative jal''; and 'the compound jal'', also called composing and inventive jal''.
'Ja'ala Allahu al-shay' ja'lan': He created it and brought it into being. In the noble Quran: 'and He made darknesses and light' (al-An'am, 1). : He made it and did it. : 'Ja'ala li-l-'amil kadha 'ala al-'amal': he stipulated it of him. : 'Ja'ala la-hu 'ala kadha ja'lan wa ja'alan': he appointed him a wage for it.
With fatha: the showing of a matter from a cause and the making. Al-jal' with damma, al-ja'ala with doubling the jlm, and al-ja'ila: what is set for a man upon his work, more general than the wage and the reward. In law: binding a known wealth against a known work, not in the manner of mere license.
A general word among the acts, more general than sana'a and fa'ala and their sisters.
The wage a man takes for doing a thing, and what the striver gives to aid himself in his striving; in its meaning al-ja'il, plural of ja'ila and ja'ala.
