Definition Al-jbn

Al-jbn according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is a state of the irascible power by which one refrains from undertaking what is fitting and what is not.

Al-jbn according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

In probity ('adala), as is the habit of the rulers of this age.

Al-jbn according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

It has three usages, two of them sound: 1. junbun, on the pattern of qufl (lock); 2. junbun, on the pattern of 'unuq (neck); 3. jubn, with double damma and emphasis, as in 'a jubna among the finest jubn' (cheeses). It is said: it is milk curdled by rennet; junun, with sukun of the ba' and damma of the jim and ba', is one usage. Al-jubn: a state of the irascible power by which one refrains from undertaking what is fitting; the Ta'rifat add: and what is not fitting (al-Tawqif, p. 231; al-Ta'rifat, p. 101 (rayyan); al-Matla', p. 389; al-Nazm al-Musta'dhab, 2/202). Al-jubba, with damma of the jim: the well-known kind of garment; plural jibab and jubat.

Al-jbn according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

A state of the irascible power by which one refrains from undertaking what is fitting (al-Ta'rifat, p. 77).

It is a state of the irascible power by which one refrains from undertaking what is fitting and what is not; so said al-Sayyid.
