Definition Al-jwar

Al-jwar according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

It is being adjacent (a neighbor) in dwelling. I'tikaf (retreat) is also called "jivar", according to the statement of 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, concerning the i'tikaf of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "and he was observing retreat (mujawir) in the mosque" [al-Bukhari, "Laylat al-Qadr", 3]. And from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, as a statement raised to the Prophet: "I used to observe retreat (ajawir) during these ten (nights), meaning the middle ones, then it appeared good to me to observe retreat" (text truncated in the source).
