Definition Al-khylaʾ

Al-khylaʾ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

With a damma on the dotted Kha and an elongated alif on the measure of fu'ala. Al-mukhaylah, al-batr, al-kibr, al-zahu, al-tabakhutur, and al-khuyala: all have the same meaning. It is said: khala, wa-khtala ikhtiyalan, meaning he acted with arrogance. He is a khal man, meaning arrogant, and sahib khal, meaning full of pride. Al-khuyala is pride, vanity, and self-delusion. He walked with arrogance: he strutted and swayed out of pride and vanity. Allah Ta'ala said: ﴿Indeed, Allah does not like everyone who is a self-deluding boaster﴾.
