Definition Al-lqyṭ

Al-lqyṭ according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is in the sense of malqut, that is, taken from the earth; in the Law: name of what is cast on the earth of Adam's small children, for fear of want, or fleeing the imputation of fornication.

Al-lqyṭ according to Al-Kulliyat (Al-Kafawi)

In the sense of malqut, and it is in language: what is gathered, that is, lifted from the earth; usage prevailed for the exposed child.

Al-lqyṭ according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Fa'il in the sense of maf'ul. In language: the taken and the lifted. In the Law: name of a living newborn whom his family cast away for fear of want, that is, poverty, or fleeing the imputation of fornication. In some commentaries on Kanz al-Daqa'iq: al-laqit, in language, is what is gathered, that is, lifted from the earth, fa'il in the sense of maf'ul, then usage prevailed for the exposed child, because he is exposed to being picked up. In the Law: name of a newborn whom his family cast away for fear of poverty, or to guard against the imputation of fornication.

Al-lqyṭ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

'Fa'il' in the sense of 'maf'ul', as jarih and tarah. In language: what is gathered, that is, lifted from the earth, then usage prevailed for the exposed child, in view of his hunger, because he is picked up; it is also said: every lost child without a sponsor, named malqut, laqit, mabrud or da'iyy. By the Law: name of a newborn whom his family cast away for fear of want ('poverty') and fleeing the imputation of fornication. His upkeep is a collective obligation, by the Most High's word: 'Help one another in righteousness and piety'.

Al-lqyṭ according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

In the sense of malqut, that is, the thing taken from the earth; and by the Law: name of what is cast on the earth of children, fleeing the imputation of fornication.
