Definition Al-mḍaf ilyh

Al-mḍaf ilyh according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Every noun related to a thing by means of a preposition, either explicitly, such as: "marartu bi-Zayd" (I passed by Zayd), or implicitly, such as: "ghulāmu Zayd" (Zayd's boy) and "khātimu fiḍḍah" (a silver ring), while being intended; by this, the adverbial complement (ẓarf) is excluded, such as: "ṣamtu yawma al-jum'ah" (I fasted on Friday), for something is related to Friday, which is fasting, by means of the preposition which is "fī" (in/on), and that preposition is not intended, otherwise Friday would be in the genitive case.

Al-mḍaf ilyh according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

Every noun to which a thing is related by means of a preposition, explicitly or implicitly, intentionally.

Al-mḍaf ilyh according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

A noun related to a thing by means of the preposition, explicitly or implicitly.
