Definition Al-mdniy

Al-mdniy according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

That which is attributed to Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah. According to the exegetes, what is meant by Makki and Madani is not what was revealed in Makkah and what was revealed in Al-Madinah; rather, what is meant by Makki is what was revealed before the Hijrah, and by Madani is what was revealed after it, even if the revelation occurred during journeys or in villages. Do you not see that the statement of Allah Ta'ala: ﴿This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion﴾ is Madani, yet it was revealed in Makkah? And Surat Al-Fatihah is both Makki and Madani because it was revealed twice: once before the Hijrah and once after. And Al-Madani, with a damma on the mim, a kasra on the nun, and a stressed ya, means the needy one, as the scholar At-Taftazani, may Allah Ta'ala have mercy on him, said in Al-Mutawwal: then he explicitly mentioned some favors as an allusion to the fundamentals of what is needed for the survival of the species. Its explanation is that man is civil by nature, meaning he needs civilization for his livelihood, which is his gathering with his fellow kind to cooperate and participate in acquiring food, clothing, housing, and other things. End of quote.

Al-mdniy according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

That which was revealed of it in Al-Madinah.
