Al-mwaqyt according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

The plural of miqat; its origin is mawaqit, with a waw, then the waw changed into a ya because of the kasra before it; hence it appears in the plural, and one said mawaqit and did not say miyaqit. It has also been said: it is the delimited measure for the act, in time and place. The mawaqit which a person may not cross except in a state of ihram are five: 1. for the people of Medina: Dhu al-Hulayfa. 2. for the people of Iraq: Dhat 'Irq. 3. for the people of Syria: al-Juhfa.

Al-mwaqyt according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

The plural of miqat: these are the places which the one intending Mecca for pilgrimage does not cross except in ihram. For the people of Medina: Dhu al-Hulayfa; for the people of Iraq: Dhat 'Irq; for the people of Syria: al-Juhfa; for the people of the Najd: Qarn; for the people of Yemen: Yalamlam. The miqat of those dwelling within is the hil (the profane land), and the miqat of one dwelling in the Haram is from wherever he sets out, except for the 'umra: the miqat of the people of the Haram is thus outside the Haram.
