Definition Al-mzaj

Al-mzaj according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

A homogeneous quality (kayfiyya) resulting from the interaction of unlike elements whose parts touch, such that the nature (sur'a) of each is broken by the quality of the other.

Al-mzaj according to Mufradat (Ar-Raghib)

The 'mizaj' of a thing is the name of what it is mixed with, that is, blended, like 'the mizaj of a people': the name of what the thing is constituted by; whence 'the mizaj of the body': what mingles in it of yellow bile, black bile, phlegm, and blood, and the dispositions proper to each of these humors.

Al-mzaj according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

With kasra of the mim and the jim, it denotes, at origin, the mingling of the elements; but since that mingling is the cause of a particular quality, the name of the caused was given to the cause. Its definition is said to be: a homogeneous, tangible quality arising in the composite body from elements of contrary natures, when the quality of each is broken by the nature of the other.

Al-mzaj according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

A homogeneous quality, arising from the interaction of elements whose touching parts transform, such that the nature of each breaks that of the other.
