Al-qaʿda according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is a universal proposition applying to all its particulars.

Al-qaʿda according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

The qanun, as passed; it is also applied, usually, to one side of the triangle, and to the line dividing the circle and its circumference into two unequal parts: that line is called, for the two arcs together, the chord (watar), and qa'ida (base) for each of the two segments.

Al-qaʿda according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In language: what the thing settles upon, that is, stabilizes and fixes upon. As a technical term: a universal proposition applying to all its particulars; so said al-Jurjani. Abu al-Baqa' said: a universal proposition in that it contains in potentiality the rulings of the particulars of its subject; those particulars are called branches (furu'), and their extraction from it tafri'; as our saying: 'every ijma' is right'. He said: the qa'ida gathers branches from various chapters, while the dabit gathers branches from one chapter (al-Kulliyyat, p. 728; al-Tawqif, p. 569; al-Ta'rifat, p. 149).
