📖 1 min readWith sukun of the lam: ink; with fatha: the cutting: one says qalamtuhu, he cut it.
What one writes with; plural aqlam; the instrument of writing and learning; the oath by it, in God's saying: 'Nun. By the Pen and what they inscribe', attests the glorification of knowledge and the scholars.
The stick and the like, qalama: to cut a piece from it. The qalam and the like: to trim its point. The nail and the like: to clip its overgrowth. Qallama: to clip repeatedly.
Originally, the cutting of something hard, like the nail.
What one writes with; the reed pens (azlam) are also called aqlam.
