Al-Raghib said: from cutting; hence the name qard for what one gives another on condition of its like being returned. In the Misbah: what you give another of your property that he repay you. In the Ta'rifat: qard, in language: mutual lending and giving with restitution (Mu'jam al-Mustalahat, vol. 3).
He qarada the thing qardan: cut it. He qarada the man's hair: cut it. He qarada: died. He qarada the place: avoided it and would not camp there.
