The return of the humors to equilibrium.
With kasra: the return of the humors to equilibrium, as Ibn al-Kammal mentioned (al-Ta'rifat p. 133). Al-Raghib said (al-Mufradat p. 264): 'shafa': to take its edge; and healing of the sick is the perfect attainment of well-being, and the word became the name of recovery.
With kasra of the shin, verbal noun of 'shafa': the sick person's recovery from his ailment; Eng.: Recovery, restoration. 'Al-shafa'a': with fatha of the shin, verbal noun of 'shafa'a': seeking pardon or lightening of punishment for another; Eng.: Intercession, advocacy.
With kasra: the return of the humors to equilibrium, the sick person's recovery; with fatha and lengthening: the letter (initial) of anything and its limit.
