Definition Al-shll

Al-shll according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

Inability of the hand and leg to function due to an affliction affecting them. Qura' said in Al-Mujarrad: Shall (paralysis) is the opposite of recovery. It has been said: Shall means cutting them off, but this is not correct. It is said: His hand became paralyzed (shallat yaduhu tashullu shallan) and it is therefore paralyzed (shalla'). Its past tense has a kasra vowel, and it is not permissible to say shulta with a damma except in a rare dialect, reported by Al-Lihyani in his Nawadir, and by Al-Matrazi in his Sharh from Tha'lab, from Ibn Al-A'rabi. Al-Matla' page 362.

Al-shll according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

Inability of the hand to move due to the corruption of its veins. The jurists also used it regarding the male organ because it becomes impaired by the loss of its movement.
