📖 3 min readIn language: the noun of composing (musalaha): peace after dispute; in religious law: a contract that removes the dispute.
In language: the noun of musalaha, which is peace after dispute and agreement after disagreement; how well the versifier put it!
In language: a masdar meaning musalaha (composing) and tasaluh (settling), opposed to mukhasama (contesting) and takhasum (quarreling). One says: he made peace with him musalahan and sulahan (with kasra of the sad). Al-Jawhari said: the noun sulh is used masculine and feminine; one says salahu, tasalaha, and asalaha (with doubled sad). Sulaha the thing, with damma or fatha of the lam. Al-Raghib said: sulh is proper to the removal of enmity between people; one says 'reconcile and compose', whence 'sulh occurred between them'; 'he composed with him over such a thing'; 'they composed, reconciled, and accorded'; 'they are at peace (sulh) with us', that is, inclined to composing. Musalaha is peace, opposed to mukhasama. Sulh is the opposite of corruption (fasad): 'the thing amended': its corruption departed; 'the sick man amended': the illness, corruption of temperament, departed; 'he amended in his conduct': he gave up corruption. Sulh: peace, cessation, and the ending of the quarrel. 'He made peace between the people, or over what was between them, or within them': he removed the enmity and discord between them. 'He composed with them musalahan and sulahan': he made peace with them, and they composed, reconciled, and accorded.
Saliha, suluhan: its corruption departed; it is salih. In the noble hadith: 'There is in the body a morsel of flesh which, if sound, makes the whole body sound, and if corrupt makes the whole body corrupt: it is the heart.' 'The thing salihat': beneficial or suitable; saliha: it suits; he is salih.
The removal of the dispute between the parties.
In language: the noun of composing, which is peace after dispute.
