Al-slkh according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

Salkh in language: the stripping of the animal's skin; one says: 'I flayed the skin from the sheep (salakhtu l-ihab 'an al-shat)': when one flays it. The compiler of the 'Lisan al-'Arab' reports: whatever splits from its crust has 'insalakha'; one says 'the freeman flayed the man's skin (salakha l-hurra jilda l-insan)', and 'the woman removed her armor (salakhat al-mar'a 'anha dir'aha)'; one also says 'the day stripped from the night (insalakha l-nahar min al-layl)', that is, it came out of it with nothing of its light remaining with it. In the Quran: 'And of His signs is the night, from which We strip the day; behold, they are in darkness'.
